Gary Oldman was originally rumored to be cast, but he was replaced by Kevin Kline
Synopsis
It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a documentary television journalist whose work is based on exposing the wrongdoings of long-respected institutions. In many episodes, Jonathon uses the same lens throughout the series, a medium telephoto lens. Such a lens would not be able to focus on close subjects, such as a selfie with Sasha or in the bedroom with Catherine.
At its core, it is a revenge story
Holy shit! Little did I know what I was in for when I started watching this AppleTV+ limited series starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline. Based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight, Disclaimer was written for the film and directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
Blanchett, as always, is fantastic here, and Kline also gives a solid performance
Blanchett plays Catherine, a journalist whose secrets from her past come to the surface in alarming ways, forcing her to confront the past that has been wreaking havoc on her entire life. This was a masterfully told story, taking us on a fascinating journey of discovery as viewers are shown (sometimes in vivid detail) the “events” from Catherine’s past. It was surprising to see Sacha Baron Cohen in a more serious role, but he did her justice.
But boy, am I glad I stuck around
Despite a few minor flaws, I highly recommend this series if you enjoy character drama with a bit of tension/intrigue. Warning: There are some pretty graphic depictions of sex/intimacy throughout the episodes. It’s not action-packed, and it took me about half an episode (about 30 minutes) to finally “get” into the story.
