Remake of The Jackal (1973)
Synopsis
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his money by carrying out murders for top fees. He soon encounters a dogged British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel The Jackal is set in 1963 and concerns an assassination attempt on then French President Charles de Gaulle. The series moves the action to the present day. Spy/assassin films have always been my absolute favorites, from my earliest memories of James Bond to Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne, films like Shooter, The Jackal (original) and The Jackal, Léon: The Professional, and the list goes on.
It definitely creates authenticitywhich is damn nice to see
This is just another great series in a long list of great series. With Eddie Redmayne at the helm, and he truly is a phenomenon, this series is great. Having worked with guns most of my life, been surrounded by guns my entire life, and personally holding firearms armorer’s licenses – it’s very easy to see that they brought in subject matter experts and military personnel as consultants for this show. The entire cast seems to mesh pretty well together…except for one. I first saw Lashana Lynch in the latest James Bond and to be honest, I didn’t think her performance was special.
In fact, I thought it was awful
Unlike previous actresses of color (if that was the intention), and let’s just say it like that, she fell far short of the exquisite Halle Berry or even the legendary Grace Jones. She came across as wooden, flat, uninspiring, frankly deserving and talentless. But I thought maybe she was just bad in James Bond, «give her another chance.» But 5 episodes later…she’s just bad. I don’t know what she did before her acting days, but she should maybe think about getting back into it. I just think the casting of Lashana Lynch is bad.
And what about Thandiwe Newton?
Personally, Idris Elba would have been a great choice as an MI6 agent. If you need a British woman of color, Christine Adams is great! SHE’S AMAZING!!! So many great choices and they went with a cardboard cutout. If you can essentially ignore the completely hopeless Lashana Lynch, the series is great.

It’s a shame this will be a miniseries and not a multi-season series, which would have been special. I think Eddie Redmayne should seriously consider other spy movies and series, as he is fascinating to watch and this series would get 10/10 if the casting of Lynch hadn’t been so awful. A new season of Silo is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
