Synopsis
Agency nurse Delia Balmer met Sweeney, who confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend. Balmer rebuilt her life to confront Sweeney seven years later after he was arrested for another murder.
Based on a true crime story
The bodies were dumped in canals in Rotterdam (not Amsterdam) and London. This excellent drama is based on the true, horrific story of Delia Balmer.
Instead, we have Delia, who is, to be honest, not a particularly likeable lady
Unlike many of these true-life dramas, the events or characters are not sugar-coated, or some dynamic hero swoops in to save the day. She can be offensive, rude, quick to snap and hurl insults – and that’s before she meets John Sweeney.
She was simply WOW
But Delia’s ordeal is so incredibly tragic that I have cried many times and been filled with anger and disgust at the attitude of the police and the justice system. Anna Maxwell Martin deserves to win awards for her brilliant performance.
This show is not for the faint of heart, but it is worth watching
I sincerely hope that the police and the justice system have learned their lesson and the victims are not treated like liars and criminals.
